Manchester United 3-1 Everton: Player ratings Rashford shines in FA Cup

Marcus Rashford is in red hot form for Man Utd

Manchester United progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford, their seventh straight win in all competitions.

Antony put Erik Ten Hag‘s United ahead before Conor Coady equalized for the visitors after a roar from David de Gea before inadvertently reopening the deficit with an own goal. Marcus Rashford ended the game from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Everton struggled, Frank Lampard hid horribly at the hands of Brighton and stuck to his job, making his worst start yet. It was all too easy for United as Anthony scored a breakthrough in the third minute. James Tarkowski was weak at tackle and Ben Godfrey did a poor job trying to push Rashford wide as he fired on Anthony at the far post.

Just moments later, Anthony Martial had a chance to extend his lead with a nearly shot on target. But while Everton looked like they were going to be confused, it was 1-1 before 15 minutes into the game, and the second goal’s defense was even more disastrous.

De Gea was the culprit and had only just survived when a shot from Demarai Gray bounced off the post and hit his back but bounced back for a corner. For the equaliser, he somehow let the ball squirm out of his legs as Neil Maupay tried to hook it past the goal in the second period after a corner and Coady couldn’t believe he was on the line. Out of luck.

The tempo was fast and Martial soon had more chances, once saved on top speed by Rashford, once by Jordan Pickford and another by a lack of confidence. block out. After half an hour, Pickford had to carefully fend off a nasty shot from Rashford that bounced in front of him.

United came close to regaining their lead once again, with Christian Eriksen narrowly winning as Everton failed to make any effort after scoring just before the half-time whistle.

The visitors suffered a blow early in the second half when Alex Iwobi sprained his ankle in a tackle and was stretchered off the pitch, before United’s own goal further aggravated the situation. Rashford against created it, turning Seamus Coleman inside and sending the ball low into the box. Coady’s clearance attempt only got the ball into the net.

De Gea’s denial of Everton’s second equalizer after the hour showed why he’s usually so good at saving with his legs, sticking out a foot to block Coleman’s shot. Pickford, not to be outdone, turned a snap of Bruno Fernandes over at the other end.

United were still in jeopardy without extending their lead, with De Gea flying out of the box and risking a collision with Dio Godalot, and moments later VAR intervened to rule out Dominic Calvert-Le Wen’s goal was accumulating for offside.

Pickford’s fingertips pushed Rashford’s free-kick over the bar in the closing stages. But after scoring his first two goals for his side, the United star finally netted his own in the 97th minute after substitute Alejandro Ganaccho was saved by Goffer. Pickford sent Pickford the wrong way 12 yards out after Ray was brought down.
